UT Austin McCombs; 2023-24 essays have been released, with only one essay question.
Essay: Please write an application cover letter summarizing your aspirations, qualifications, and personal and professional experiences that make you a strong candidate for the Texas Full-Time MBA program.
LIMIT: 500 words
Optional Statement: If applicable, applicants can provide an optional statement in the cover letter section of the application. Applicants should only provide an optional statement if there is something they wish to address about their candidacy that is not addressed elsewhere.
Video Assessment: All applicants will be required to complete the Video Assessment shortly after submitting their application and paying the fee. Applicants have 7 days to complete the assessment upon receiving access to the video submission platform. There will be 4 question prompts and applicants will have 90 seconds to answer each prompt.
2023/24 essay question analysis
Essay
A change from last year's essay question, this question aims to assess your enthusiasm for McCombs and how you believe you might fit within the program. It will be important for you to understand the school’s resources outside of the classroom – from informal events to class traditions. You’ll want to connect with students and alumni to get the inside scoop on the campus experience (we can help) and opportunities to improve it.
This essay is a great opportunity to package achievements from your resume into a concise explanation of how those achievements and experiences make you the right person to pursue your goal(s) at McCombs. Avoid just summarizing your resume, as it will cover little new ground. Instead, think of 1-2 core examples that will help the reader extrapolate how you could leverage McCombs.
Optional essay
As with other schools, the optional question is available for you to explain any additional information that you may not have had the space to clarify in other parts of your application.
Video Assessment:
While it sounds cliche to some, the key here is authenticity. We can work with you on preparing responses, and practice delivery.
